Description:

Three spring fed pools (hence the name). The top lake is a small canal type cutting and holds 12 pegs which are 4-5ft deep (1.2-1.5mtrs.). The middle lake is a specimen carp lake which is 3-4ft. deep (0.9-1.2mtrs.). The bottom lake holds 26 pegs and has two islands and is popular with clubs and small open events with depths ranging from 3-7ft (0.9-2.1mtrs.)

Species and size:

The top and bottom lakes are both classed as mixed fisheries and include the following species: Carp from 6oz up to 12lb+ although the average size is between 2 and 4lbs. Tench with some specimens up to 8lbs in the bottom lake. Crusians to 2lb, Chub up to 4lb 8oz and Barbel plus loads of Roach, Rudd, Perch, Gudgeon and Ruffe. The middle lake is an out and out specimen water and holds carp up to 22lbs.

Methods:

Top and bottom pools are dominated by the pole, although waggler and feeder methods do score. Pole tackle needs to be quite sturdy with elastics of 12+ and lines of Ø0.12+. Lots of fish are taken against the islands or down the margins and plenty of fish also coming from open water between 8 and 13mtrs.  Floats can be relatively light and hook size depends on the baits being used. With hook baits there are no hard and fast rules, but the following baits have worked well: maggot, caster, corn, meat, pellet, paste and worms. As with a lot of venues, smaller baits (maggot, caster) work well in the colder months, with the bigger baits coming in to there own when its warmer.

Matches:

The bottom lake is a great venue for club matches with lots of species to go for. Winning weights are normally between 25 and 35lbs,although a new match record of 74-12-0 was taken last year (2000). There are no real flyers, but island pegs 1,2, 7, 23 and 27 do have form, along with dam wall peg 13 where the current match record was recorded.

Location:

From the junction of the A5 and A426 drive south for ½ a mile, take the next right turn for Newton. The fishery is about ½ a mile on the left, drive 300 yards down the track to the car park.
