Mill Pond

Description:

A long established pool with an island containing some 21 pegs. The depth varies between 2½ ft. and 4½ ft. (0.75mtr.-1.35mtr.) and most pegs have a feature to fish too, even if its down the margins.

Species and size:

This venue is a real animal house, with lots of double figure carp present. A 4lb carp here is regarded as small. Most other coarse fish are present including some rarely caught catfish.

Methods:

The pole works well at the Mill mainly down to the accuracy of where you can put your bait. The size of fish though, means only specialist carp tackle should be used, with line in excess of 5lb needed. Fishing against the island or one of the lily beds almost guarantees bites. But the margins produce some of the biggest fish. Lots of fish are caught in open water also, its here that the running line is probably more favorable.

Bait:

The size of fish present means bigger baits are the norm, baits like: meat, corn, paste and boilies. Maggots, casters and worms also have there day. Last year saw lots of fish taken on expander pellets.

Matches:

The Mill Pond is another popular club venue and with the big fish present 50lb+ is often needed to win. (The match record stands at 86lb 6oz) Though like the Banks landing the fish is sometimes more difficult then getting the bite. Most pegs on the venue have there day with wind direction a big factor, the best pegs to draw are usually 1, 7, 11, 12, 18 and 21.

Location:

Take the A45, just past Willoughby heading west. Turn right towards Barby. At the top of the hill there is a crossroads take the track immediately to the left past the water tower. The car park is about 150mtrs. on.
